  • Getting married in Spain promises an enchanting journey through diverse climates and captivating landscapes. The weather in Spain can depend a lot on the time of the year and the elopement destination of your choice.

Spring (March to May) will welcome you with mild temperatures ranging from 10°C to 25°C (50°F to 77°F), perfect for exchanging vows amidst the spring blossoms. Plus you could continue your elopement trip with a honeymoon, visiting some of the world-famous festivities such as Carnaval in Cadiz in February, Las Fallas in Valencia in March, Semana Santa and La Feria de Abril in Sevilla around easter time.

Summer (June to August) brings sunshine and heat, with temperatures soaring to an average of 25°C to 35°C (77°F to 95°F) along the coast. This is the perfect season for a beach elopement by the coast.

Autumn (September to November) paints the trees with vibrant hues as temperatures cool down to a comfortable 10°C to 20°C (50°F to 68°F). Imagine saying 'I do' amidst the golden foliage of a vineyard and celebrating your first night together as a married couple by cozying up together by a crackling fire.

Winter (December to February) casts a magical spell, with average temperatures dropping to 0°C to 15°C (32°F to 59°F). With an average of 325 sunny days a year, Spain is a fantastic elopement destination, as you can expect to have a sunny wedding day even in the winter.

If you’re looking to get married but don’t love the cold, Spain is a fabulous choice. Even in winter, the Canary Islands offer the perfect all-year-round elopement destination in Spain featuring sunny days and a fresh breeze.

  • Although every couple's elopement timeline is different (depending on the location, season, and time of the day), generally speaking, the wedding ceremony is usually around 20 minutes long and you can expect photography before, mid, and after the ceremony.

The whole elopement experience usually lasts a minimum of four hours but we recommend keeping the entire day available in case of unexpected changes (ie. unpredictable weather conditions etc.).

The best outdoor lighting tends to be around sunrise and sunset - also known as the golden hour, so we usually recommend that the elopement ceremony be held close to that time, in order to have the most memorising pictures of your special day.

  • There are many ways to get around Spain. The first thing you should note is that Spain boasts an extensive public transportation network, including high-speed and regular trains, buses, and metros, making it easy to travel between cities and regions. You can purchase tickets at stations or online, and schedules are usually reliable. The high-speed trains run between major cities such as Barcelona, Madrid, Seville, and Valencia, while the regional trains connect most towns and villages, making it a great option to see Spain on a budget.

Speaking of cheap transportation options in Spain, buses can be a great option for reaching destinations not accessible by train. Companies like ALSA and Avanza operate extensive bus networks covering both short and long distances.

If you’re looking to visit hidden gems that are away from the train tracks or just want the flexibility to explore Spain at your own pace, consider renting a car. Major car rental companies operate at airports and in city centers and the rental tends to be quite affordable (starting at around 20 euros a day depending on the season, car, etc.). For great prices on car rentals, you can check out Do You Spain.

If you’re wanting to get married in one of the major cities like Madrid, Barcelona, and Valencia, you’ll be happy to know that there are also efficient metro and tram systems that provide easy access to key attractions and neighborhoods within the city.

Many Spanish cities are pedestrian-friendly, with compact city centers that are easily navigable on foot. Biking is also popular, with bike-sharing programs available in cities like Barcelona, Madrid, and Seville.

For longer distances, domestic flights are available between major cities and tourist destinations, offering a quick and convenient way to travel across Spain. However, you should note that in 2024, in an effort to make the transport system in Spain more sustainable, the government proposed a ban on domestic flights where there’s an alternative train journey of less than two hours.

Boats and ferries are a great way to island hop while in the Canaries or the Balearic islands. Not only are they budget-friendly, but they also tend to be modern and a comfortable way to get around. Bonus tip: taking a ferry between La Gomera and Teneriffe also lands itself for dolphin and whale watching.

All in all, Spain offers a large variety of transportation options to suit different preferences and budgets, making it easy to explore the country's rich cultural heritage, stunning landscapes, and vibrant cities.
